National Nutrition Month - Vitamin D

National Nutrition Month - Vitamin D

With March being National Nutrition Month, we have been focusing on foods and supplements that provide us with the nutrients needed to keep healthy.

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin found in some foods in very minimal amounts including fish, mushrooms, and eggs.

There are a few nutrients that work together with vitamin D to help absorb and assimilate essential elements.

  • Vitamin D helps calcium get absorbed from foods.
  • Vitamin K is important to supplement with vitamin D because it ensures that the calcium gets into the bones. See our K2-D3 supplement.
  •  Magnesium helps convert Vitamin D from foods and supplements to its active form where it can perform functions. Many of us are deficient in magnesium and may need to supplement with a chelated form like MagAbsorb.

The current recommended daily allowance for vitamin D, most experts say, is woefully inadequate. How much you should supplement is in debate. To discuss checking your vitamin D levels, schedule an appointment with our nutritionist by clicking here.
